Shutout snaps skid

SF 5  CIN 0

If you don't let the other guy score any runs it really improves your chances of winning! Six pitchers combined for the Giants tenth shutout of the season. Rafael Devers provided the big hit, a three-run homer in the 2nd. The bad news is that starter Carson Whisenhunt had to come out of the game with an apparent injury. Speaking of injuries, Willy Adames goes on the IL along with Victor Bericoto and JT Brubaker. A bunch of call-ups were needed to "backfill" the roster: Grant McCray, Nate Furman, Shay Whitcomb, and pitchers Anthony Molina and Ryan Walker.

The Giants need ten more wins to avoid losing 100 games. That's a goal we can get behind!

Adrian Houser tonight at 6:45 PT. Go Giants!

If the Giants can win 10 more games, I guess we have to count it as an improvement, even if it doesn't feel that way. We have 2 more against Cincinnati, then Pittsburgh, the Mets, two series against St. Louis (who just lost 2 starting pitchers), and the Twins. All those teams are .500-ish or so. Then there's 2 series against LA and 1 against Arizona. 10 seems doable, even in this disappointing season.

This is a big homestand. They need to rack up some wins. They are 23-45 (.338) on the road! They have a makeup game in Atlanta on the 31st, then 12 road games in September. They are 30-33 (.476) at home and have 18 games remaining in SF. There's a chance.

And now Wisenhunt has a torn ligament in his elbow and will need surgery.

I’m spiraling. It’s hard to watch the Giants this year. I just watched every video I could find of Steve Perry singing during Giants playoff games. Im not sure what it says about my mental state…
