The Giants played a terrible game. They made three errors. Blade Tidwell gave up more runs (5) than innings pitched (4). They got a run in the 1st but couldn't do crap after that. It was going to be another missed opportunity. Another lousy outcome. Another "let's just turn it off" and "thank god it's an off-day tomorrow" kind of afternoon.
Then something happened. The Giants, down 6-1 in the 8th, scored six runs. That's right, six runs. It was the late-inning nightmare all over again except this time the Cardinals were on the receiving end. The Giants are the best in MLB at blowing leads but today they turned the tables and pulled off a great win.
Here's how it went: Drew Cavanaugh single, Grant McCray strikeout, Christian Koss fly out, Brett Harris hit by pitch, Turner Hill walk, Bryce Eldridge single, Jonah Cox single, Jung Hoo Lee double, Shay Whitcomb double, Drew Cavanaugh groundout. That's what they call "batting around."
The result is three wins in a row and a series sweep. That's 62 for those of us counting. I'm starting to feel confident that the Giants will not lose 100 games.
In the bottom of the 9th the Cards put the first guy on but Trent Harris got a double play and a groundout to end it. Nice work from Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson as well (scoreless 8th and 9th). I'm still having a hard time believing the Giants won this game.

Unbelievable. In a way, it's kinda sorta not even their first series sweep. They won the three game series that started June 16 and concluded August 31.
The 2026 Giants: Finding a Way.
Almost the way things went down in Spring training. The amazing thing about it was that Cox hit a slow, but routine ball to shortstop and the kid beat it out. If only he could make more contact, the sky is the limit. Contact seems like a wasted concept for McCray. The other interesting thing about the inning, was that after Lee hit a long foul ball, folks were saying just the giants luck another long shot just foul, then he hits one very similarly but this time it was a fair ball by a decent margin, and Cox scored from first before Lee could get to second. The question now is, can the giants win on Friday night on apple TV and make it 4 in a row? I am glad tugboat is not starting the game on Friday, as the polished hitters on the Padres could be a problem for him. At least for now, the giants record at home is 500, I would like them to go over that mark.
