Playing like a team in the midst of an impressive death spiral, the Giants dropped their sixth in a row as they lost to the Rockies, 4-2. We have it all going on right now: shoddy defense, inept offense and largely inadequate pitching. One can only hope that this stanky stretch will finish up soon; this team needs to feel some love.
Tim Lincecum pitched like a pretty bad number 5 starter. He gave up a healthy lead right away and really put his team in a big hole. He never hit over 90 mph (that I saw) and seemed to average around 88. It wasn't a complete implosion - 5 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs(3 earned), 1 walk, 4 SO - but it sure was nothing to get excited about. Yep, Timmeh looked like exactly what he is; an end of the rotation guy.
The offense was largely forgettable once again. Matt Duffy hit an 8th inning homer and Angel Pagan had a three hit night but everything else is a bunch of meh. I must admit I'm getting very tired of watching Hector Sanchez play baseball. Susac, anyone? And how much longer does Joaquin Arias take up a roster spot? It is not like those guys are to blame for this spell of sh*t baseball, it just feels better to blame someone and then chop their heads off!

The homer that Tim gave up to Arenado wasn't that bad of a pitch. It appeared to be below the knees, although, probably could have been farther below the knees. He put on one of those big loopy golf type swings and hit it out. We held the Roxies to 7 runs in the series, and lost three games. OUR offense.......3 runs against that tuff, tuff Roxies' pitching. That is pretty unexcusable for a series.
tired of watching Hector Sanchez play baseball.
Oh. So that's what he's doing! Hard to tell.
Susac, anyone?
Yes please.
Can't wait for the first installment of the 18 game analysis! hopefully with a couple of Gigante wins in the next 8. MadBum-Kershaw coming up in less than a week now.
I concur about Hector. Its not looking good, and the Giants need every little advantage they can get.
Our lefty bats are really struggling.
Offensively, Susac has a grand total of 2 singles so far for the River Cats. So maybe he needs a little more time.
Yeah, those were all winnable games. Giants hit the ball hard all night but couldn't string anything together. Timmy got a lot of swinging strikes and foul balls and had plenty of movement but it looked like they could see the curveball coming.
MadBum tonight!
According to Baggs that was Timmy's slider but it had no "slide" (i.e. horizontal break). OK, whatever. The splitter seemed to be working at least!
panik, belt, crawford, 0 for 52, is that true? Give me a deck of cards that has not been cursed.
Maybe we should have made third base Duffy's spot, and spent the money that we spent on McGehee on something else. Perhaps a good team psychologist.
Timmy's pitch was not that bad, it was a pitch that did have downward sink, but it was right down the middle, a perhaps a hair too high, but have to give the Rockies third baseman credit, he took a rip at it that looked like Tiger Woods teeing off, when Tiger used to be good.
If you have a 50% chance to win each game then a 6-game losing streak has a (1/2)^6 chance of occurring. That's 1/64 or less than 2%. Am I right? You have to figure the odds will swing in the Giants favor especially if you factor in MadBum. I think he will be a "stopper" tonight.
Last year the team had two six-game losing streaks, one in June and one in July. Going back, the Giants had one six-gamer in 2013, one five-gamer in 2012, two five-gamers in 2011, one seven-gamer in 2010, and one six-gamer in 2009.
GO GIANTS!!
No, Mark, you are not right. If there is a 50% chance of winning (which isn't right in itself) then your chances after you lose one, two or ten are 50% for the next game. More like flipping quarters, if the quarter knew what happened during the last flip and freaked out and tightened up.
Indeed, you are correct. Gambler's Fallacy. But the probability of six losses in a row is still 1/2 to the 6th power, right? (Assuming equal odds of winning for the two teams.)
Doesn't matter, now it's seven.
