Pence Out, Madbum On

Hunter Pence was placed on the Disabled List before today's game, but Madison Bumgarner feels like he "found the delivery he has been missing for a year and a half" accrding to Charles Odum at AP.  Maddy's line:  7 2/3 innings, 11 K, 4 hits, 2 walks, and 0 runs.  And... a 2-run shot to help in the 6 - 0 Giants victory.

Hunter Strickland and Chris Stratton fimished the game and Joe Panik and Buster Posey each hit 2-run home runs.  Witout Hunter, we need Buster, and now is a great time for him to get hot.  The Cardinals have been feeling their oats lately.

FanGraphs likes Bumgarner's homer-happy ways.

Yikes. Now they are saying 8 weeks (plus surgery likely) for Pence. That's not what I expected. Our Iron Man is looking more like the Tin Man. It's a shame, not just because he's a great player, but also that he's such a fun guy to watch (and root for). I'm hoping that Parker and/or Williamson will get a chance to show what they can do. Maybe we'll get a big lift from one or both of them. Damn, that's a cruel blow.

Yeah, brutal loss. I figured it was going to be this bad by the way he reacted on the field. He must have torn it some. Only time will tell if we can over come this one. The loss of his bat is obvious but just as meaningful is the loss of his defense, which has been incredible this year. Of course, the FIRST BALL HIT after Hunter's injury went right out to Parker and he totally misplayed it (the one that Span tried to grab and it became a triple). Maybe a platoon will work with Williamson but I don't think either one of those guys are ready. Major bummer. Just puts more pressure on the pitchers as the team balance gets knocked around.

Sure hope JohnnyC's back is feeling OK. I'm worried that he may not be able to stay at his remarkable success level. Man, I hate injuries.
