Vlog 16 "Coastal Cueto"

10-1 win vs Mil

I am on a lovely vacation but that has not stopped our determined boys From ripping off another 5 game win streak.  Life is tough.

Posey is red hot and that's always a great thing.
I'll be on a road trip soon. I'm going to Europe with my sister and we'll be gone over 2 weeks. We'll try to keep up with the Giants. She's more passionate about them than I am.

Yeah, 8-12 hitting for Buster against the Brewers. But I love that he got 2 SB ( back end double steal two days Ina row! ). The move of putting Belt in front of him came at the perfect time. Hope Brandons foot is Ok, this looks like his year.

Cueto's fabulous 10-1 start causes me to remember Rick Reuschel. He burst on our scene in a similar way and quickly also stole my heart. I can not think of two more dissimilar athletes, physically. Both are/were superb athletes, just different types. That was a while ago, wasn't it?

I love it when you have positive Johnny C news to report. Bubbly!

It sure has been a nice run. I was a bit worried about starting the Vlog and then having nothing but crap to report on. My fears were unfounded. It won't always be so bubbly, so we should enjoy it while it lasts. I figure on the bad days I can just take every one on a tour of my Giants swag...see, I have a plan. Or just play with the dog. Or throw things. This is why I Vlog now. So many choices that can so easily cover up lack of insight or knowledge.

Great Vlog, as always!

Any mention of Rick Reuschel causes me to reminisce about that time in St. Louis in July 1989. I flew in from Colorado, Jim Streeter flew in from the Bay Area, & my Friend, Tracy, from Lawrence, KS met us there for the 3-game series. I was driving a rental car in downtown St. Louis on Friday around Noon, when a light turned red, & I just barely managed to stop at a crosswalk. A very short distance from our front bumper was the knee of a very large fellow. I glanced up at his face & immediately started excitedly shouting 'Big Daddy! Big Daddy! Big Daddy!' That's how close I came to thwarting our playoff run - there was a mere 3 feet between things being OK & me going down as the SF Giants version of Steve Bartman.

Since it was the last series before the All-Star break, there were many players at the Airport, when I arrived for my flight. I saw Ozzie Smith & Terry Pendleton at the entrance to the Gate Area. Then, in the lobby near my gate, I saw Kevin Mitchell sitting with Pedro Guerrero. In my pocket was a Kevin Mitchell Batting Practice homerun ball. Although, in 1989, Guerrero was already ex-Dodger scum, I made the decision to have Mitchell autograph the ball & have a quick conversation, while totally ignoring Guerrero.

The Giants lost that series, 2 games to 1. But, all 3 games were exciting, & both the Giants started & ended the series in 1st place in the West.

I was thinking of suggesting to you that you change up the video venue and then you go and do it. I like the different settings! The beach scene was particularly cool. Loved the crashing surf in the background. Some time you'll have to do a 'walk the dog' vlog, just mount the camera on a selfie-stick or something. Or a vlog while you are floating on the lake! Or we could do one together--when the main salon re-model gets finished we'll do a House of Mark edition, à la "Wayne's World." Lots of possibilities, eh?

JohnnyC keeps rollin', man, that's pretty cool.

Giants are 14-1 against the minnows, SD and MIL. That's what you have to do, beat up on the little guys. More important they are 6-4 vs. LA. That's got to continue. Nine more games against them including six in the final two weeks, with three at home on the final weekend. Just keep them at arm's length the rest of the way, right? Don't give them a chance to make up ground. I really feel they are playing below their true level. Maybe by the time the Giants are fully healthy and rolling along in the second half they won't be close enough to make a difference. But I'm getting ahead of myself. It's a long grind. 23 games until the ASB. Let's have a good run here and go into the Break in solid shape!

Jean Machi is back in the fold!

Stockpile, stockpile, stockpile! I guess Machi had some legal trouble--public intoxication, urinating in public, yadda yadda yadda. Everyone fucks up now and then. It's not wife-beating or assault or anything ugly, as far as that goes, just stupid dumb-ass frat-boy shit. At least we hope that's all it is. Giants are usually pretty good at "vetting" so I imagine they looked into the issue and felt OK with it.

Machi: I think what happened was that when Machi was let go by the minor league team he was playing for, he dealt with the disappointment or despairing shock by getting drunk. The booze and the belligerence weren't frat-boy stuff but the reaction of a guy who was up against it in a strange city, which he entered as a member of a team and now found himself teamless, jobless, cut loose. I'm not surprised that the Giants didn't hold the incident against him.

I could see that. Sometimes we forget these guys aren't just names on a roster sheet. It takes a lot of drive to make it as a pro. I imagine the highs are pretty intense and the corresponding lows that much harder.

Was Machi buddies with Pablo? I remember that Sandoval seemed to enjoy his drink and didn't mind making that very clear at a WS parade or two. I was impressed by his very public and very early intoxication that day. It seems like he had a friend or two also. I don't really blame them for celebrating the magic but it was a bit tacky too

Machi had a untouchable sinker thing for a while, a very brief while. It seems worth giving him another chance if only to recapture that fascist groove thing for a brief while once again. Like MOC says stockpile stockpile stockpile.

I just kind of realized that we are a cutter happy staff. Like yesterday, I swear pitchx thing calls every thing Shark throws a cutter. Then I saw a McCovey Chron post about it. Every one but Matt uses it about half the time! MadBum may call it a slider or slutter but it is the same. Four of five starters live off it and several relievers do too. I remember that Vogelsong used it a lot but I can't think of many others. Wilson, I guess. Time for us all to brush up on the pitch of the year for the Giants: the cut fastball.

Is the cutter Suarez's big weapon? What I have seen so far is very promising. Sucks that Peavy gets to do that sore neck BS whenever he wants. They just mentioned that his whole family spent the off day with him in Florida. Then he misses a turn, hmmmm. And he is going great right now. It seems like a terrible time to take a break. I will trust that he knows what will keep him going for the whole season. Oh well. I guess that means Stratton goes Sun?
