Four homers make it four in a row

SF 7  AZ 2

The Giants bashed their way past the Diamondbacks for their 73rd win. They now have the same win percentage post-ASB (16-9, .640) as they did pre-ASB (57-32, .640). I only mention that because they may have to keep playing .640 to hold off the Dodgers who also won their fourth straight!

Kevin Gausman made it through five but he was shaky, walking four and struggling with command. The Giants booted a couple of balls in the 4th to contribute to one of the runs Gausman allowed but the offense picked up the slack and the bullpen (Alvarez-Leone-Watson-Garcia) took care of the rest. Gausman did chip in two hits himself, scoring a run and driving in a run, so there's that.

Buster had two hits (one a homer), BCraw had three hits (one a homer), LaMonte Wade had two hits (one a homer), and Alex Dickerson had a pinch-hit homer. The team had 14 hits overall. Johnny Cueto goes on the IL with a flexor strain. John Brebbia was sent back down and Camilo Doval called up. Thairo Estrada was re-called as well.

Logan Webb tonight at 6:45 PT against the Rockies, opening a four-game series.

Go Giants!

The Giants picked up a 25-year old rookie OF on a waiver claim from the White Sox. His name is Luis Gonzalez and he is currently injured. They can put him on the 60-day IL and he will be in the mix for 2022. He's a lefty hitter with good OBP numbers in the minors.

The Kevin Mitchell positional splits are most similar to Youngblood's:

235 G @ 3B

807 G in OF (including a few in CF ... I don't remember that ... it was 6 Games during the Mets' 1986 WS Championship Year ... sounds like an odd location for Mitchell!)

Moving Mitchell to LF made him a star. He was a good player with a lot of promise and his bat kept him in the lineup. But when went to LF full time he was an MVP and had his best seasons.

He was sure a fun player to watch!

Two games in a row we've had our starting pitcher going along fine, and then out of nowhere they completely to crap. Woods' meltdown was epic. With Gausman, I suspect that his crappy inning might have been a result of that awkward funky play at first base. His legs got tweaked. At least he pulled out of it pretty well. And we won anyway, both times. Hell, we always win.

I remember going to a met game when Kevin Mitchell played for the Mets. He played shortstop that game. One wonders why Mitchell even needed to wear a glove.
