Six sinks Snakes (oops, Rox)

SF 7  AZ COL 0

The Giants threw their 13th shutout tonight. Logan Webb was a little shaky early on but the Giants turned three double plays in the first four innings to snuff out any rallies. Webb finished with eight strikeouts and only three hits and two walks in his six innings. He's the ace of the staff since the Break. The Giants broke the game open with a six-run outburst against German Marquez in the 4th inning. LaMonte Wade had a three-run homer to cap the scoring. Jay Jackson worked the 7th and struck out two, but the big news is Camilo Doval pitched the 8th and the 9th and struck out four, yielding one hit. He threw 23 pitches to seven batters, getting eight swinging strikes of his 18 strikes total. Doval could be a real "shot in the arm" for this team in the stretch run.

The Dodgers lost so the lead is now five games. Anthony DeSclafani returns from the IL to start tomorrow night at 6:45 PT.

Go Giants!

I forgot to mention that Logan Webb missed a grand slam by a few feet in the six-run 4th. It wound up being a long single--Alex Dickerson had to wait to see if the ball would be caught and only made it to second base. Jon Miller called it a double and said all the runners had scored, only to backtrack a few seconds later. Not sure what game he was watching! (He makes a lot of mistakes these days, sad to say.) Wade hit the homer right after Webb's blast.

Webb 5-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his last 10 starts.

WTF, Mark - please double-check the title of the post?!?

Nevertheless, another big win!

Back to Kevin Mitchell, he played 24 G @ SS for NYM in 1986, & 1 inning @ SS for the Good Guys in 1987 - he had an Assist!

Logan Webb was gritty. If he grew a beard, he'd be Gritty.

There is some talk about Posey being in the run for MVP. Although he plays at MVP levels, I do not think he will have played enough games to win it, but he should get plenty of votes to show up in the running. Also working against his MVP status is that the giants record is actually better in games that Casali starts, than in games that Posey starts. Plus Brandon Crawford should be considered in the MVP grouping this year. Is Lamonte Wade eligible for Rookie awards? or, does he have too much service time before this season? Even in games that he does not go deep he seems to hit several just foul balls of home run distance.

Ron, the Giants had a six-run inning that turned the game decidedly in their favor. Thus "six" sunk the Snakes. I don't know if it is alliteration or consonance or a little of both but I came up with "Six sinks Snakes" as soon as Wade hit the homer.

NL MVP is wide open with Tatis and Acuna getting hurt. If I had to pick a team MVP I'd pick Crawford over Posey, but it's close. MVP is kind of like Homecoming Queen: the criteria are vague and the vote says more about the voter than the winner.

Wade is not a rookie.

You guys probably noticed that Connor Joe was leading off for the Rockies last night. Remember all the grief FZ got for putting him on the roster? Obviously he had major-league talent (he was a first-rounder, after all), he just needed a little more seasoning AAA.

BCraw 2-year extension for $32M.

I thought they'd wait until the off-season for any signings, but I was wrong.

There will be a host of FA SS this fall like Baez, Correa, Seager, Semien, Story, etc., but the Giants are staying in-house. They have Estrada as a capable backup and he might even be better than that. They've got Dubon for depth. The big SS prospect is Luciano and he's not yet 20 years old and he's still in A-ball.

So, it's a good move. They took care of a key position but did not overdo it on money or years.

As a fan, it's a GREAT MOVE. We all love BCraw. His play this year has been the best of his career so it seems right that he was rewarded for that.
