The Giants beat the Rockies this afternoon in San Francisco for their 76th win. Alex Wood pitched well, throwing six scoreless, but ran into trouble in the 7th. With two out, two on, two in, and a one-run lead reliever Dominic Leone gave up a hit but LaMonte Wade threw out catcher Elias Diaz trying to score. A two-run rally in the bottom half gave Tyler Rogers and Jake McGee sufficient cushion and they got the final six outs unscathed. Tommy La Stella had three hits--his two-run double in the 5th was the big blow. The Giants take three of four from Colorado and improve their home record to 40-18. They are 11-3 in August and 19-10 since the Break.
Kevin Gausman goes tomorrow night against the Mets, 6:45 PT.
Go Giants!

The Mets could not even beat the Dodgers one game. I hope the giants have as much success against the Mets that the dodgers did. A lot of shots off the bat of Bryant at first have the feel of a ball heading to the seats for a home run. Yet he either hits a line drive too low, or gets too far under it and it stays in the park. He has had a lot of solid contact with less hits than he deserves. I hope Longoria gets his strike zone awareness back fast. Belt came off the IL looking ready, but the last few games he seems lost at the plate. Need both of these guys to remain hot. With the bases loaded an one out, a pitch very far outside was called a strike to Crawford. It seems that it really messed up his AB. Once again Wood looked great until he reached a wall. He managed to get his ERA below 4, and then, Oops he managed to bring it right back up. Supposedly 11 wins when he has started after a loss. That is nice.
Third time through the order. Wood got the 1-2-3 batters in the 6th but not the 4-5-6 batters in the 7th. It's hard for ANY pitcher to get through seven innings.
Almost every game there's a moment when I shout "I love that guy!" reacting to something Lamonte Wade has done. What a throw!
I think after so many pitches on a given day, Wood loses some back end life on his pitches and it seems to occur in an instant. Not sure if it is a third time around effect, or just something that happens with his arm or mechanics. Most of these hitters have seen him before and know what he features.
I just checked the Box Score for the Game that I went to, when I was in Minneapolis for a Conference in September 2019. Batting 9th & playing CF for the Twins that night was Lamonte Wade, Jr.! Until this morning, it hadn't occurred to me that he might have played in that Game.
He went 1-for-3. With the Twins leading, 3-2 in the 7th Inning, he hit a 2B w/ 1 out, & a runner on 1B. It's described in the Baseball Reference Game Recap as a 'Line Drive to Deep LF'. He eventually scored the Twins' 5th run in a 5-2 victory. He also had 5 Putouts, & 1 Assist!
Also notable in that Game was the Sergio Romo appearance in the 9th. Coming in to his traditional music, he immediately gave up an HR. He then whiffed the next guy, but gave way to Taylor Rogers,, who came in to get the last 2 outs.
Romo is still pitching and having a good year over in Oakland.
Wade has 15 HR, 8 2B, and 2 3B in 230 PA good for .532 SLG; plus 33 R and 38 RBI, 21 BB and 58 SO (66 G).
Belt has 15 HR, 8 2B, and 2 3B in 234 PA good for a .530 SLG; plus 36 R and 35 RBI, 31 BB and 74 SO (64 G).
Wade has 27 PA against lefties and only two hits! Belt has only 45 PAs against lefties but he has 12 hits. Now you know why Darin Ruf (.927 OPS) gets those starts.
Seriously, this team is really deep. All these guys can rake and they are all great weapons off the bench late in games.
