4-3 loss vs.ARI
Johnny Cueto (14-5) coughed blood after 4 nearly perfect innings and delivered his shortest outing (4.2 IP) of this season. That, combined with just enough Greinke and not enough timely hitting, led to a huge letdown and a drop to 2 games behind the blue goo (postponed in Col). We have now dropped 6 of his last 9 outings, which is especially painful after winning 16 of his first 18. Bad trend.
An even worse trend: the Giants are now 8-18 in the second half in games started by the big three; MadBum, Cueto and Samardzija. If that doesn't stop soon we have no chance.

No more V-logging?
Giants are 10-16 for August despite scoring more runs (116) than they allowed (109). You'd think they could have at least managed a .500 record! It's been a bizarre season. Only 31 games to go--what's it going to take? 20-11 record (.645) seems unlikely given the state of the club right now. 17-14 would mean 88 wins, that's what pace (.542) they are on now--would that be enough for a wild card? Man, I just don't know what to think! I keep expecting them to start playing great ball again and it ain't happening.
That game was terrible. The Giants almost had Greinke out of the game by the 4th, and then it was like someone flipped a switch. Cueto had nothing in the 5th, and Greinke put away the Giants in 9 pitches. The Giants at bats could not have looked worse if they had been trying to throw the game. Were both of those double plays on the first pitch after they put a runner on base? Seems like it. After the benevolent Roxies gave us a half game Monday, we could have picked up another half for free. I was at this point last time Moore pitched - not even wanting to watch (my curiosity got the better of me about the 6th inning so I saw the last part of his effort). And WTF was the dbacks uniform designer thinking? I hate that team.
@MOC The vlogs seem to get a very tepid response and low viewership (10 or fewer views) so I think that experiment may be coming to a close. It takes a while to upload so night game vlogs are a special pain. Personally I don't think most people ever even hit the link. Oh well. I'm better at comments anyway.
JC, I don't measure 'response' by 'comments.' Lots of people visit the site here or on Facebook and read (or listen) and don't type comments. Doesn't mean they aren't paying attention or that they don't appreciate what they see. And you've just started the 'experiment.' It's in its infancy--I would encourage you to continue.
Just because I'm boring and I prefer to do simple text-only posts does not mean we can't have all kinds of other media on the site. I really like having different voices and styles and approaches. Photos, videos, animation, charts and graphs, whatever Blogger will handle is OK by me, in fact it is more than OK, I think the site needs it and benefits from it.
I think you should tweak what you are doing rather than discard it. It may take some time to find the form that you will be happier with. I know I certainly have experimented with different styles in my writing and it's taken a long time to find my own voice and my own particular way to talk about baseball. It's a process, man. Trust the process. You never know what you'll discover about yourself and about all those deep questions our love of baseball and the Giants seems to generate within us.
I love seeing you in your various spots; trying to guess where you are exactly; noting where the Matt Cain bobblehead is each time; and esp. when you end by saying "I love you guys" because we love you too! Hope you Vlog again.
@SIR Thanks sweetie. I figured that you would miss the vlogs; you have been very supportive from the first. And you are right, I greatly enjoy reminding everyone that I love them, so maybe I won't give it quite yet!!
I am a big fan of the Vlogs! I looked forward to them, win or lose - but preferred win. I can certainly see why processing one & getting it sent after a late night game is difficult (especially one like last night), so we can all wait for you to send it out the next morning.
Go Giants!!!!
