Sweep!

SF 4 ATL 3
A shaky Hunter Strickland turned a 4-1 lead in the 9th into a 4-3 nail-biter (with the tying run on third base) but got the last batter (phenom Ozzie Albers) on one pitch to finish it. The Giants won with another solid start from a young arm (this time Andrew Suarez) and a team-wide offensive attack (seven different players had a hit, four different players scored a run) that was just enough to hold off the Braves. The Giants looked poor in the field today and in fact committed seven errors in the series, but also made big plays, especially turning two, and made up for it with a 24-run barrage. I'm hoping we see fewer misplays, and I expect we will as the season goes on and the team piles up more innings together. Great work from Tony Watson again with three outs on six pitches, and the top two in the lineup (Gregor Blanco and Andrew McCutchen) each had a hit, a walk, and RBI, and a run scored. Philadelphia tomorrow at 4:05. Jeff Samardzija gets the ball--he needs to get his season going, the youngsters are showing him up.

GO GIANTS!

A sweep of the Braves is sweet. But the guys have to tighten up their defense.

Interesting situation developing - one I'm sure a lot of teams would like to have. Strickland has been fine as closer so far, although he was shaky yesterday, he got the job done. Watson has been nails. How much slack to you cut Strickland before Watson takes his place? Some, surely, but not too much. I mean, 6 pitches for 3 outs! Then there is Dyson. And Smith. And maybe, someday, Melancon. That's a lot of closer-ey type guys. Which is great for the Giants and a step up in the game as it is played these days. But it is a balancing act.

6-8 weeks for Cueto. At least he doesn't need TJS.

let us hope that nothing else ensues about the cueto story. It was nice that the giants finally had more runs scored, than runs allowed. Well, it lasted for one entire day, almost. Now with an 11 run loss, the uphill battle starts again. The defense remains shaky. Elfin on Monday looked great and he took advantage of a ridiculous strike zone. Samardijxxx, is still not ready. It took him months last year to walk as many batters as he has in 3 games.

Yeah Samardzija looks lost. He needs to find it!
