Giants Bite Back

SF 5 AZ 4 (10)
The Giants snatched victory from the jaws of defeat this afternoon in San Francisco with three runs in the final two frames. Trailing 4-2 in the 9th with one out Mac Williamson drew a walk. With two outs and down to his final strike pinch-hitter Alen Hanson blasted a game-tying homer to right field. That was some big-time last-gasp heroics! It almost didn't work: Hunter Strickland walked the first batter in the top of the 10th and wild-pitched him to third base (and walked another batter) before wriggling out of the jam. That set the stage for Andrew McCutchen who blasted what looked like the winning homer with two out in the bottom half only to see it stay in the park for a double. He probably should have had a triple with that one but he jogged out of the box before accelerating to second. Centerfielder Jarrod Dyson might have misplayed it, perhaps losing it in the sun, or was victimized by a gust of wind, but it mattered not. Next batter Brandon Crawford ripped a single to right to plate Cutch and the Giants had a sensational win.

The 31-31 Giants are off tomorrow and then hit the road for three in D.C., four in Miami, and three in LA. Let's hope they play better ball on this trip. Andrew Suarez faces off with Stephen Strasburg on Friday at 4:05 Pacific. GO GIANTS!

I thought Strickland struck out the batter and the pitch got away. Looks as if Hansen my be this years Scutaro.

I think we miss Scherzer when we go to DC. Which is a good thing.

They have good pitchers all the way through: 206 RA, only Houston (186) is better.

3 days shy of his 60th Birthday, Jim Streeter was at yesterday's Game! He was ebullient afterwards.

Crawford has been spectacular.

I was having a hard time with the whole Facebook thing because it upset my normal baseball routine, so I stopped watching this game after the 8th inning. It was obviously a loss, or so I thought. And last year I would have been right. But this year things are different. I am enjoying it.

Timmy is a free agent again--he was released by the Rangers.

I watched the game on my computer monitor (via FB) and had no issues. There was some FB bullshit (like comments from viewers) but they do that stupid stuff on regular broadcasts. Bottom line? Watching a ballgame is watching a ballgame regardless of who broadcasts it or how it is delivered. God I hate those dugout interviews and the split screen when they talk to someone during the action! And I hate the roving reporter in the stands stuff, too. But that's how baseball is delivered to us. I did keep the radio on and had the sound off on the computer, and my "radio" comes via mlb-audio which is delayed. So, I watched the game-winning hit, then heard our guys call the play while the TV/FB was showing the replay!

Giants need to take that winning play on the road. This team needs some road wins. I keep feeling like this team is ready to break out and go on a long winning stretch, then they crap out. 100 games left in the season. If they go 60-40 they'll finish with 91 wins and probably guarantee themselves a playoff spot. Can they win 60 out of 100?

Yes, they can. "Will they?" is a different matter. It's tough to reconcile a 2 - 6 road trip with a 5 - 1 homestand. Yet if they can go, say, 5 -5 on the road, then turn in another good homestand....................oh, what the hell, just do what you can against the Nats, then sweep the Fish and LA.

I'll miss the Nats series (camping this weekend)--keep the faith and go Giants!

I will be going to one, and possibly two games in the Marlin's series. I hope this year
the giants take advantage of a Marlin's team that is struggling, and that the Marlins do find find the giants to be the medicine that turns their season around. Seems as if the Giants may be the medicine that just turned Goldschmidts season around.

The Giants need to beat the Marlins. The Marlins are not trying to win at baseball, only at the cash tills. Really, beat those fish.
