The Giants blasted their way past the Phillies tonight, scoring six runs in the 8th inning and hanging on for another huge road win. I missed the game as I was out celebrating with friends, a rare occurrence these days. It was a splendid evening, made even more splendid when checking the Giants score and seeing the fabulous result. Buster Posey hit two homers, both off starter Zack Wheeler. Tommy La Stella hit one off the former Giants farmhand as well. The real damage was done off reliever Connor Brogdon, who surrendered two three-run bombs, one by Alex Dickerson and one by Wilmer Flores. You have to wonder why the Phils stuck with Brogdon for eight batters--maybe they were short-handed with the COVID situation.
No matter. The matchup tonight certainly favored Philadelphia, but the Giants were able to get to Wheeler and keep it close despite a poor start from Logan Webb.
"Our pitching has been incredible for us to this point," Dickerson said. "It was time for us to put the foot on the gas and really start producing." (ESPN recap)
Ain't that the truth!
Anthony DeSclafani gets the start in the getaway game tomorrow at 10:05 a.m. Pacific.
Go Giants!

Posey now with 4 home runs on the season, and 4 RBI. If he gets hot, and keeps hitting for a while, he may find himself back in a high run production position. Crawford hit two long foul balls but just could not straighten them out. Belt looks to have been injured in 9th inning. I hope to find out what happened and hopefully it is not serious.
Hmm, I wonder what you might have been celebrating?... I'm glad to say that a daily perusal of RMC has returned to my lifestyle. It probably helps that the Giants are relatively good. Our newspaper, the Sac Bee, must get put to bed at 5 PM these days because stories on night games don't appear until 2 days later, which drives me nuts. I was a journalism major at SF State so I take my daily newspaper seriously. So, if I'm craving a succinct description of the game I almost certainly watched, RMC is the place to go. We also watch a lot of "Quick Pitch," recording it and fast-forwarding to the good parts.
Wow, Buster and Bro Bob both make a spectacular appearance on this fine day! A true reason to celebrate... although I was going to celebrate yesterday anyway (marijuana’s birthday right?)
All five homers were nicely hit but Buster’s made my little heart race. His swing looked so fluid and quick, boy howdy. Gave me some flashbacks. He could make this whole season worthwhile.
Although Casali has not been hitting he is a quality backup and that takes a lot of daily playing pressure off Posey. It should help him to stay fresh and healthy and that means he will hit a lot better. Not to mention he is moving well after the surgery he can generate power on his swing again. Really nice to see!
Catching is sooooooo much better this year. A huge improvement from last season!
AmyG says Tyler Beede is throwing 100% and will be joining the team soon. Beede was the team's first-round pick in 2014. His teammates at Vanderbilt were Mike Yastrzemski, Walker Buehler, Sam Selman, Tony Kemp, and Dansby Swanson. He had TJS last year.
I'm curious who is "on the bubble" at the moment. Jarlin Garcia?
