Clinch-fest

The Giants punch a post-season ticket with an emphatic win in their 144th game. That's the end of the 8th seasonal inning. There are a mere 18 games left. Here's how they've played so far:

1st inning: 11-7

2nd inning: 11-7

3rd inning: 12-6

4th inning: 12-6

5th inning:  12-6

6th inning: 10-8

7th inning: 14-4

8th inning: 12-6

That's 94-50 for a .653 winning percentage, best in MLB. They are 10-2 in September and 37-18 since the Break. The numbers speak for themselves. Looking at it month-by-month they went 16-10 in April, 18-10 in May, 16-9 in June, 15-10 in July, and 19-9 in August. The 2012 World Series champions won 94 games, by the way.

This remarkable team still has a major task ahead of them--fending off the LA Dodgers and seizing the NL West crown. They'll have to keep playing great baseball, but I'm betting they will. After all they've played great baseball for 8/9 of the season!

I appreciate everyone chiming in on the comments. Keep it up! I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to post again.

GO GIANTS!!

The dodgers have a slightly easier schedule to finish the year. Giants just need to keep on winning. With the amount platoon ball they have been playing they should be relatively fresh.

Guess what? Our boys start the last “inning” with another win. Number NINE in a row. Remarkable.

Ooops! The streak ends. Even though our boys hit 4 homers (again), the Padres offense was not gonna be denied and San Diego won on Wednesday, 9-6. Tatis got like six hits…the doggers won too. It ain’t over.

Shit, another tough loss (7-4) and the lead is down to a game. Gausman worked hard and got beat by a pudre offense that looks kinda scary now. Hungry, you know? Sucks that we still have six more with them.

The Padres mostly hit against the defense, took level swings and did not attempt to launch the ball. At least 12 of their runs the last two games came with 2 outs. This is something the giants have a lot of trouble doing if they do not hit the dinger. Sometimes going against the defense and taking the walk may work better than just going for the solo homer. Even the Padre home runs in the series were line drives. Belt was Oracled twice in the same game. He must have been quite frustrated. His long single ended up in a double play. Also in the Pads first win in the series they had two chalk line hits. It happens but with the dodgers looming, the giants cannot keep letting this happen. Two games is enough.

Just another glorious day for our boys…even the doggers lost! Today’s version of glory (6-5 in 11 innings over the Braves) included this year’s standard refrain: the 4 home run game ( Solano’s was a ninth inning pinch hit ). Jeez they do that a lot. Riding the long ball to yet another win, number 96 by the way. Just for fun tonight’s last hero was actually Gausman with a walk off sac fly. It really should have been an easy win for Webb and he deserved it but bullpen failures happen.
Up by two

Just to prove they are not long ball junkies, the Giants beat the Braves on Saturday, 2-0. It was the first time in 13 games that they didn’t get a dinger. They were so anti-homer that they took one away from the Braves. Literally reaching over the fence and knocking it back into play. I assume it was Duggar… a terrific play that saved the shut out. Along with some studly bullpen, of course.
Alex Wood returned from being quite sick with COVID, his wife too. He refuses to disclose his vaccination status, which is a total dick move. He looked very solid in three innings.
Lead is still two.

I was so hoping against the law of reciprocal shutouts for Sunday, but so far no luck. Giants need to come back with a big crooked number and Posey needs to start hitting again. The rest has not been helping lately. I almost look forward to Casali starts.

Yeah so the offense continued to slumber into a coma and got shut out 3-0 on Sunday. Great to have Monday off; they look shagged.
Still a game up, with 12 to go…is that all?

So, since I got to witness yet another Home shutout in-person, the Dodgers are breathing down our necks, & I'm in a shitty mood anyway, as an OF, I have to chime in on the overall crap OF play by the Team over the last 10 days.

Ever since that Game in Wrigley Field, when a ball was lost in the Sun & dropped, & two guys crashed into each other, causing another ball to drop, our OF play has been abysmal. Too much drifting & laziness. There have been an ongoing number of misplays during the entire Homestand. We had -0- Errors yesterday, but 3 balls were misplayed into extra base hits, & one almost flew over an OF's head, but a last-second leap enabled a catch. Desclafani, who was incredible, was placed into high stress situations, due to the mounting incompetence. He wouldn't have given up the Duvall HR, if he had received some decent support. The Duggar 'bring the ball back into the yard' play on Saturday should have been caught, too.

Bah humbug!

I am also a bit frustrated with the Giants outfielders not making plays that could have been made. Several of those balls seemed to be catch-able.

There is definitely some talk about the disappointing defense of Kris Bryant. Many people thinking he is not a long term answer…

What you don't see on TV so well is the lackadaisical drifting, until the moment of panic, when they realize that they don't actually have it lined up. It's sloppy. Sure, the Ballpark is tricky - that's why you get there quickly & adjust. Drifting is ineffective. Aside from general fundamentals, this is a Pennant Race, damn it!

And, I'm not focused on Bryant - yeah ... him, too. But, I've got the same beef w/ so-called good Defenders like Slater, Duggar, & Yastrzemski, as well as the less accomplished Bryant, Ruf, Wade, Dickerson, etc..

Best OF that we have is Dubon - too bad that he can't rake at the plate yet.

Bryant has been moving all over the field. I suspect if he was holding down just one or two positions his defense would improve. Perhaps his offense as well. The biggest problem I see with his offense is his plate discipline. Although he did do a good job in taking ball four off of Mr. Smith only to be called out to end the game. The pitcher was rewarded for making a bad pitch, and the batter was punished for having a good eye. More reason for Robot calling of balls and strikes. If the umpires have an effect on games, some games going your way and some games not so much. With most games not being decided by the umpires. I would say the giants are in the negative when it comes to outcomes being decided by the umpires.
