Opening Day Open Thread

The Giants have not set their final roster but word is that Tyler Beede will make the cut. He's going to be an interesting story. Keep an eye on Roster Resource, that's the best place to get updates.

Leave lots of comments below. GO GIANTS!!

Giants win in 10! Exciting game, but I have a quibble: The words "the first batter hit into a double play" has always been nonsense and should always be.

Sorry, that was me, your resident crank.

Seems even though I am 3000 miles away, whenever I make a change in venue something happens. I was watching the game and the giants had a nice lead and shutout. My wife and I were going to get our covid Boosters our fourth shot. I walked out of the house to the car in the driveway. Probably about 10-15 seconds. I turned on the radio. (south florida 940 the marlins station) and the Marlins had scored on a home run from the time I shut the door and walked to the car. When leaving the pharmacy where we got the vaccination and going to the car, (I was following the game on my cell phone), another change of in the game occurred as I turned on the radio again, Belt had just homered. So a change in venue going away seems to work for the opposition. A change in venue going back home seems to work for the giants. I just might be getting superstitious in my old age.

A couple quick impressions after only one series and an incomplete spring:

The Giants have good pitching. Maybe they match up favorably with any team in the league. If the Giants will be competitive, it will be because of the pitching. I don't think they got enough credit for relief pitching last year - there was no well-defined closer, which is still mostly a thing, but that's because the Giants have a couple guys that can fill that role. The relief all looks really good - at least so far.

The hitting is a question - as everyone knows, the Giants tried to add hitting, disappointing some for not doing so, or at least not doing "a name." I think that they are counting on, in addition to their veterans having decent years, at least a couple of Thairo Estrada, Darin Ruf, Joey Bart, Yaz/Flores/Ramos/Wade Jr./(insert name here) to really put together a season good enough to call them bona-fide major leaguers. I'm not confident that all these guys can do that, but if a couple of them can, and with production from Belt, Crawford and Longoria, that could work. I'd love to see Ramos light things up.

Once again the giants win with Casali behind the plate. The giants record with Casali catching is nothing short of phenomenal.

Nomisnala must have gone out to dinner for the first 2 innings last night - what a show!

Yet just when I was really getting interested in the season, MLB has to remind me of how it has absolutely no integrity by trotting out those awful City Connect uniforms. I guess I'll have to only do radio on Tuesdays. Really, they're terrible.

Terrible looking ... and just plain stupid. Even the name is stupid.

BCraw got his homerun finally - now I'm happy!

The Giants once again seem to have made a habit out of winning. I'm still not sure I "get" the way baseball is played these days, but one thing for sure is that every move they make is based on a highly rational formula. Anything can be quantified.
Put me down as someone who does not miss pitchers coming to bat.
Speaking of pitchers, Webb and Rodon both look scary good so far. Such a dominating one-two punch could be decisive in the post season.

I read some Yankee blog in which the author was whining about how he didn't think it was a good idea that the Yanks let Thairo Estrada get away. Seems he was on to something.

National west the only division in baseball with an overall winning record? This is really a tough road trip on paper for the giants. If they come out with a bunch of wins it could say a lot about this team.
