Ace vs. Ace

Madison Bumgarner matched up against Felix Hernandez tonight in Seattle.  Madison pitched damn well, but Felix Hernandez pitched better.   No, that might not even be right.  Madison lost.  Madison was tossing a no-hitter and the Giants looked like they might break through until a bad hop in the 5th hit Brandon Crawford in the chest and put Mark Trumbo on base.  You might dispute whether that should have been scored a hit, but in the 6th, hits from Mike Zunino (?), Austin Jackson and Robinson Cano scored two.

Madison: 8 IP, 2 runs, 4 hits, 1 BB, 9 K
Hernandez: 8 IP, 4 hits, 2 BB, 5 K.  But 0 runs.

In his last 2 starts, Madison has thrown 16 innings and given up 3 runs.  The Giants, in Madison's last 2 starts have scored exactly 0 runs.  And that sucks.  June it is, and tonight was not a pleasurable game to watch, even with a masterful match-up of pitching on display.

What do you think, Ron?

Sickening game. It should still be 0-0, but Pagan made an atrocious play, & Panik's relay was weak, too. We can't hit our way out of a paper bag, so I suppose that we would have eventually lost in extra innings, but what a waste of a MadBum gem. He was awesome. So was Hernandez.

Yeah it was bizarre, it seemed like Pagan pulled up short at the last millisecond, taking his eye off the ball as Maxwell closed in. Games like that get decided on stupid little things.

I thought Belt hit a homer off the bat but then it died in RF.

The last 3 times that I have seen the Giants, the SF Pitchers have allowed a total of 5 runs. The Giants have scored 0. It has been 1-0, 2-0, 2-0. Cain, Heston, &, now, Bumgarner have all been Cained. I'd really appreciate a bit of Giants offense tonight.

Truly a tough loss but at least it was to a very worthy opponent. I would say that Hernandez straight up beat MadBum. Madison gave up a huge hit to a horrible #9 hitter (below .200!) right before he gave up the very well hit ball by Jackson. Hernandez never made those types of mistakes. I agree that Pagan should have caught that one but I was especially surprised at the lame relay. A pity but at least it wasn't a loss to a nobody shitty pitcher. We have had a bunch of those in the last couple weeks.
Speaking of which, we face a rookie nobody today. Oh joy.

Tried hard to see people - they show a million crowd shots! - but no luck. Wear a wig or something.
