Giants Slip Past Snakes

5-4 win (11) in AZ
A stalwart Albert Suarez gave the good guys a solid six frames and that led the way, mostly. He also got a hit and scored a run. The bullpen could not hold the 4-2 lead in the 8th but the Diamondbacks, this time, could only tie it up. Eventually the Giants got the go-ahead run in the 11th (nice one-two punch from Jarrett Parker and Ramiro Peña) and Santiago Casilla somehow conjured up a save and the homeward-bound club slips out of Phoenix with a series win. Again, special mention to the starter--that's a tough lineup to pitch to and a tough park to pitch in. Suarez got through six with only two runs allowed, five strikeouts, and zero walks. The Giants, as is their wont, should have scored more runs. They had nine hits and three bases on balls but were 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Lots of hard hit balls that coulda/shoulda/woulda done some damage.

A tough stretch for the team with all the injuries. Today's lineup was the weirdest yet, but it got the job done. Three at home against the Rockies, then a much-needed break on Thursday, then three more against Arizona before the ASB. Tomorrow's game is at 1:05 p.m.

Have a great Fourth and Go Giants!

There can't be many effective teams who are forced to play with only three regulars in the lineup, two of whom are out of position. Or who have their regular second and third basemen on the DL, plus the top two backups for those players, plus having the most ably versatile backup to those backups injured. The crank Dyer, who writes "Giants Cove" (NOT to be confused with Goings' fine Cove Chatter), has sneered at the Giants' lack of depth, as he sees it, compared to other teams, which are all doing less well than we are. I am amazed at the Giants' depth, with a Suarez to replace Cain this year, a Tomlinson to replace Panik las year, seeming non-entities who have lifted the team.

Giants are certainly hanging in there. Kudos to Boch and the players for keeping the faith and grinding it out!

I am reading that there are a number of players coming back soon. However, that makes difficult decisions for the Giants. Suarez seems like the one reliever they should keep around (with Cain's return after the ASB) but he seems the only one with minor league options. Also, according to the Chronic, Pena, Green and Tejada are out of minor league options. How can Green be out of options? Do some guys only get 1? Has he been up a few times before that I didn't notice? I like Pena and Green, especially Green seems like he has a baseball future.

Green is an FNG but not a rookie. He's been around--Giants are his third team.

FanGraphs gives a little description of options. Roughly you get three option season, sometimes a fourth.

I hope Green sticks around. As a reserve infielder, he could be The Third Man (behind Tomlinson and Pena).

Brown, Green, and Blanco. Black is on the 40-man roster. Let's keep the colors coming!
