Springtime in the Rockies

2, 12, 2, 6, 4, 14.  Those are the runs scored in the Giants last 6 games.  Schizo, huh?

Coors Field in Denver.  The Giants have not won there in over 5 years, or at least, that's the way it seems.  Somehow, they shook off that curse, if only for 1 night.  14 friggin' runs!  Who'da thunk it?

Madison Bumgarner: a lead-off home run (given up, not hit), 6 innings pitched, 8 hits, 3 runs total, 1 walk and 8 K's.  And a W.  Why?  Because the Giants gave him 7 runs in those innings, after 2 or less in 8 of his previous 9.

The Mac is back, with an attack.  2 hits, 2 runs, 4 rbi (3 on a 4th inning home run).  Also: home runs for Pillar, Longoria.  Also: RBI's for Panik, Duggar, Crawford and Tyler Austin.  Also:  Williams Jerez pitched the 9th.  Not particularly well, but he allowed 0 runs.

I have to say, I like the looks of this outfield (Duggar, Pillar, Williamson) one hell of a lot better than whoever those chucklefucks were that we started the season with.

Tomorrow:  Anything could happen.  Like snow.

Pillar struggled a bit in the outfield. I guess he had not played much in the rare air of Denver. Maybe after today he will settle in and track the fly balls in Denver as well as anywhere else. So hoping that Williamson can sustain his good hitting. Slater could be next.

I'm on the no chucklefucks bandwagon, too. No more chucklefucks!

Great win. Let's see some more of THAT.

Jerez came from the Angels for Stratton.

Pillar usually catches both of those in his sleep.
Think you're right that the thin air got him.

It's about time Madison got some run support. He has pitched very well this year, with only a few bad moments. Mike Morse said that Madison is completely healthy for the first time since his shoulder injury.

Yeah I think we are seeing that--he is looking more like vintage MadBum than either of the last two years. He was hurt early in both of those seasons but he's healthy now. That's good news.

Does that mean we will contend, or does that mean we can ask for more for Bumgarner on the trade block.

My goal for this team is .500, or at least an improvement on last season's 73 wins.

Will they trade Bum? My guess is they will if they get a no-brainer offer from some pitching-hungry playoff team. A really top prospect that is ML-ready. Otherwise I think they'll wait and make him a Qualifying Offer at the end of the season and if he is wooed away by a long-term deal then they'll get a draft pick as compensation.

If they negotiate with him, I don't think they'll go past three years. Posey has an option for 2022, as does Cueto, and Longoria is the only one still signed then (option year is 2023). They can offer him a big number per year but a short duration contract. That will keep fans happy and keep the team from repeating past mistakes like extending players into their 30s. Bum will be 30 in August.

Personally I'd like to see him stay and sign a 3-year deal for $100M or something. Guys like Scherzer, Price, and Kershaw make $30+M/yr. People will say the Giants are crazy but that kind of deal would put butts in the seats and not be too burdensome, and keep the Posey-Bumgarner combo going, which will be the last link to the 2010 team.

Ultimately none of this works if Bum doesn't pitch well. Like I said he looks more like the old Bum and that's good for everybody.

Not sure how to gently say this, but Hunter Pence is making a case for comeback player of the year. He now has 5 homers and 21 RBI while being a part time player. He is also batting 344. So I guess a healthy Hunter Pence even at his age is not washed up as so many Giants' pundits and reporters said. Let us see how the rest of the season unfolds for him. One tweaked or herniated disc, can but a damper on his season, but if he remains healthy, he can be a force.

Good for him. One of the most likeable Giants of all time. He's outperformed the entire Giants outfield so far! And that's at age 36. I'm glad he's doing well. He signed a 1-yr, $2M deal with Texas. I wonder if the park in Arlington helps him. He's from Ft. Worth, originally, and came up with Houston.
