Blanked

LA 8  SF 0

Dodgers starter Walker Buehler continued his mastery of the Giants and Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani extended his misery against the Dodgers. DeSclafani was out in the 3rd inning and Buehler allowed only three hits through seven. John Brebbia struggled in his two innings of relief, adding to the Giants woes, and Jason Vosler had a rough night at third base. To add injury to the insult, Buster Posey had to leave the game after taking a foul tip off his mask.

Sammy Long is back, Zack Littell was sent down. Brandon Crawford could be back tomorrow. More moves are coming.

Day game tomorrow, 12:45 PT. Johnny Cueto and David Price.

Go Giants! Beat LA!

Hoping for a throwback good Cueto game tomorrow. Hope Posey is OK. Our guys go down with injuries as if they are being bombarded by a firing squad.

Apparently Brebbia has been optioned to AAA. That's not surprising, but DFAing Mike Tauchman is, to me. I guess the Giants like what they see enough from Yaz/Duggar/Wade/Dickerson etc. to feel like they're covered. Or maybe they have someone else in mind.

Both of those moves were the obvious ones. Tauchman isn't hitting and they have a surplus of lefties in the OF, the four you mentioned are all LH hitters. All of them have options as well--Tauchman had to be DFA'd which means he'll have to clear waivers if the Giants are to hang on to him. It's too bad, he's a very likable player, he just could not get it going with the bat (.569 OPS) and when you have a guy like Wade who has 12 HR in 51 G it made it difficult to justify another spot for a LH OF.

Also, and more to the point, they needed roster space for Aaron Sanchez. Starting pitching is the key need for the second half, in my view. Also BCraw was activated and I suspect Vosler (.646 OPS) will be the next cut--he has options left. Belt and LaStella are supposedly not far away and they'll have to make some more moves soon.

If they don't make a move for an OF, I'll be shocked. Dickerson & Yaz been underwhelming, so they really can't put a full, credible set of OF's out on the Field.

Slater, too. Yaz was hurt early, but he's been getting better, moving closer to what they expected. Dickerson and Slater have been well below league average, unfortunately. Thankfully Ruf has stepped up. Wade has really done a nice job against righties and Duggar has been a positive contributor, too.

I really would like to see another starting pitcher before an outfielder, but a move for an outfielder is certainly justifiable. MLBTR said they inquired about Kris Bryant. I suspect a guy like him would cost way too much. And I could see them pursuing Bryant only if they thought Longoria wasn't coming back soon. Bryant plays 3B and OF, and they like positional flexibility.
