Giants keep rolling

SF 10  WSN 4

The Giants jumped all over Nationals starter Jon Lester who was also victimized by some poor fielding. It was 8-0 after three innings. Anthony DeSclafani threw six scoreless and left with a 9-0 lead. Tyler Beede got an inning of relief work and he gave up three runs but also struck out two. Let's hope he can get back to full strength soon and add some depth to the staff. Jose Alvarez nailed down the 8th on four pitches and with a 10-3 lead John Brebbia got the 9th. He gave up a run but got the final outs and the Giants had another big win. Brandon Crawford was 3-for-3 with a homer. Joey Bart started and had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Thairo Estrada had four hits--two were swinging bunts--and three RBI. He started the game in LF and finished it at SS. That's how the Giants roll!

Kevin Gausman gets the start tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PT.

Go Giants!

Andrew Baggarly described the Giants this way in his game story on The Athletic:

They usually work tougher plate appearances than their opponents. They usually throw more quality strikes. They usually make fewer mistakes in the field. They usually look like the superior team, more or less. And they usually receive a few outstanding contributions.

That's my take as well. That's why I call it "attritional" baseball. It's like the whole team is taking the long view. They are totally immersed in the process. They have faith that the results will come if they keep grinding.

Here's BCraw from the same article:

“We all feel good as a team, and we feel good about being in first place, for sure,” Crawford said. “But what we’ve done a really good job of this year is just going game by game and not really worrying about other teams, whether they’re in our division or out of our division. We’re just focusing on what we need to do as a team to win games.”
