Prince Albert in a can

Simple formula for success against the MMIX St. Louis Cardinals: keep Albert in the yard. No HRs Friday, Giants win. Two HRs Saturday, Giants lose. No HRs Sunday, Giants win. Pujols hits singles = victory.

Without Tim Lincecum we took 2 of 3, our only loss to Chris Freakin' Carpenter, finally pinning some ER on him. Not a bad weekend's work, I'd say.

Mississippi Fred only struck out ONCE on his way to 4 hits in the series with 2 runs scored, including a walk and an RBI triple. Pablito also had 4 hits and 2 runs, adding 3 RBI. Once again the 'pen stepped up with a stellar effort, bailing out an ineffective Sanchez.

Can we win on the road? We'll find out Tuesday.

Sanchez was just mediocre, not bad. It would be swell if he came up with great start now and then but it seems the best he can do is occasionally eat up six innings or so and hold the opposition to 2-4 runs. Maybe he needs a change of scenery or a move to the bullpen. I wish he was a better pitcher. Maybe he will be someday, somewhere else.

It causes me great pain that no one commented on the appearance of a beloved Candlestick luminary in the video linked I posted a few days ago. If he is still alive, he must be the world's oldest living Human. He may have already been 90 years old at the time of this video. Anyone remember??? I actually have an autographed newspaper photo of him somewhere:

I assume you mean Abe? Is he still around?

Yes, indeed, James 'Abe' Souza appears in this video - like I implied, he must be around 110 years old by now. Probably still hawking malts somewhere, too.

I did notice Ol' Abe, but you had alerted us to the fact we'd be seeing someone from "back in the day" when we watched it, so I didn't think too much of it. But you're right, it was way cool. I remember that commercial when it aired. And, of course, many a chocolate malt from Abe.

Crazy Crab--that was whacked. Croix de Candlestick was a much better promotion.
