The Giants seem to be good at moving on from what we fans think are devastating, catastrophic losses. Of course this was indeed one of those, but the boys are pros and know that tomorrow brings a fresh chance to win. Just have to adopt the ballplayers mentality--forget about today and get excited about tomorrow.

That was about as bad as it gets for a closer: two run lead, three-run homer.

I have zero interest in the Olympics. But this interview was epic.

Brutal loss, a Dusty Baker style loss.

I know that this point was long-forgotten by the time that we had lost that crap-fest, but I had a palpable sense of foreboding, when Roberto Kelly held Trevor Brown up at 3B on Cueto's second hit. From where I sat (sitting in front of my computer), it sure looked like a gimme run - it was a slowly hit grounder through the infield to a guy with an average arm in CF, & Trevor Brown is pretty quick. Instead of turning a 7-1 lead into an 8-1 lead, it wound up loading the bases in front of our typically un-clutch leadoff hitter (most of his RBI's this season have occurred in 2 games) who, of course, then proceeded to fail to get the run home. We never scored again, & I felt at the time that we had missed an opportunity to slam the door shut.

Hunter Strickland is always scary. Santiago Casilla has had some epic meltdowns this year. On the other hand, when that HR was hit, I think that everyone, including Scoop (Schoop?), thought that it was a pop-up. I was amazed that it carried out.

Time to pick ourselves up ... again. C'mon Giants!!!!!

The Giants are 9 - 18 since the ASB. Why are we still in first place? Because the doggers, in that time, are 14 - 12. We started with a 6 game lead they are now 1 game back. In the last 12 games, the Giants are 5 - 7 but LA is only 6 - 6. Yes, we are treading water, but LA has done shit considering the opportunity they have been handed. They have a lot of guys hurt, though.

How have we lost? I went through and counted whether the loss was due to the starter, bullpen or offense (if the Giants scored less than 3 runs, I picked the offense). Since the ASB: starters lost 3 (one of those was Cueto's in which the Giants scored only 3), bullpen lost 5 (1 of those was a 1-run offense), offense lost 10. In 10 games of the 18 losses, not counting the bullpen loss mentioned above, the Giants scored fewer than 3 runs.

Even in games that we get a lot of hits, and take a lot of walks, we do not necessarily score a lot of runs. We leave a ton of guys on base, and this year Posey has been a big culprit. We lack a big bopper who can clear the bases with a 3 run dinger. Yes we get some but amazingly few. Belt seems just a little bit off. Crawford got more than 5% of his hits for the entire season in one game. We have had too many just foul homers, or just foul shots down the line, or like the last out, a ball that just did not quite make it up the middle for the final out with a close play at second. If you do not hit it out, they can catch it. We have had a few ground rule doubles the last few games keeping the lead runner on third instead of an easy score. Every time some little thing goes against the giants, it seems to cost us. After the pen was so good in a losing cause in game one, when we needed them in game 3, they collapsed.
